Road repairs - Dolphin Lane

A big one this - and long overdue. Cllr Stacey and I have been pushing on a number of roads in this part of the ward and Dolphin Lane has been in particular need of work. It is about to start, which is a good bit of news for residents.

The work is scheduled to start during the week of the 21-25 April 2014. It is expected to take up to fifteen days and the crews will be working on site on weekdays between 9:30am and 4pm.

Amey will put signs on the road to confirm the precise start date.

As vehicles can't drive over hot tarmac, the section of the road affected will be closed to all traffic while surfacing is being carried out.

If you require access for medical/personal reasons, you can contact Amey on 0121 303 6644 (option 2), to discuss how access can be arranged. Pedestrian access will be maintained as well as access for emergency vehicles. That number can also be used for any other questions that you might have.

During working hours, it will not be possible to park on the road. Cars left will have to be removed and this may incur a cost to the registered keeper. There are also likely to be speed and width restrictions while the work is carried out, as well as road closures.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but this work needs to be done and is usually completed well within the time allocated.

Yardley Road Resurfacing

For over a year, Stewart and I have been chasing our highways contractors, Amey, to repair the one remaining un-resurfaced stretch of Yardley Road between the rail bridge and Francis Road. I've been out with their planning manager and their local manager to walk the road and point out the problems with the potholed and cracked road surface and we've lobbied for it at every opportunity.

Well, the good news is that the road is now scheduled to be resurfaced between December 2013 and May 2014.

Since Amey took over the highway repairs function of the city council, they decide on the roads to be resurfaced and lights to be renewed. Councillors have some influence and can put forward arguments, but Amey's drive is to deliver against their contractual target on a city-wide basis.

Road resurfacing - Greswolde Park Road

Amey will be resurfacing the full length of Greswolde Park Road during the week beginning April 15th 2013. They expect to take up to five days to complete the work and will be working between 8am and 6pm.

Pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will be maintained, but sections of the road will be closed to other traffic during the work, as it involves laying hot surfacing material to the road bed. Width and speed restrictions will also be in force during the work period. If access is required for emergency or medical reasons, please contact Highways on 0121 303 6644 (option 2) to discuss the problem.

During the work, please don't park your car on the highway, as it will be moved by the City Council and this may incur expense on your part. Note that this might also cause access problems to Orchard Way while the work is being carried out.

Resurfacing work on Oakhill Crescent - 19 Oct

Oakhill Crescent is due to be resurfaced during the week of October 19th. Contractors will be planing off the existing road and resurfacing it. The work will be carried out between 8am and 6pm during that week and is expected to last for up to five days.

Please be aware that the road will be closed while surfacing operations are being carried out.

As this road is a link between Oakhurst Road and Gospel Farm Road, please be aware that this will prevent through traffic as well. Pedestrian and emergency services access will be maintained, but cars cannot be parked on the road while the work is being carried out. Any cars left there may be removed by the City Council and this may incur a charge to the owner. If you have any specific queries about this, please contact Amey on 0121 303 6644.
